An unknown male is targeting churches and stating that he needs financial help to get to Jersey, in order to identify the body of his dead mother. There are slight variations to his story. On occasions he has used his father rather than mother, Cornwall and Leeds rather than Jersey. There have been nearly 20 recorded offences in Hampshire this year and we are now aware he is operating in our area of the country.

The suspect has been known to telephone the church, arrange to meet with the vicar, they then hand over a sum of cash, it is then thought that the vicar receives another ‘bogus’ call from the suspect alleging he is a clergyman who then confirms the story.

There are many descriptions provided by witnesses, the common factors have been: male, white, 35-40 years, slim build, light brown hair, often very nervous.

The police have now identified a male called Mark PROCTOR born 28/01/1965 who could be a possible suspect for these offences. He has previously been arrested and charged with offences of this type and is currently wanted by the police. He is of no fixed abode.

If you or members of your church are approached by a male in this way, please contact the police immediately. Please feel free to circulate this information

Did you know that Dwelling Burglary on South Northamptonshire this year has reduced by 19.4% (31 less crimes) and Anti Social Behaviour has also reduced by 19 % (448 less incidents)
