Thank you to everyone who came on Sunday 22 April to the BookMarks Literary Celebration in the Reading Room.

The afternoon was a huge success, with far more people turning up than we had ever hoped. Every last one of the twenty-six copies of Charles Dickens' 'A Tale Of Two Cities' and Roald Dahl's 'Someone Like You' for World Book Night were taken, and even more books were off-loaded at the Book Crossing swap zone.

A huge audience turned up for the readings from local writers, whose numbers included Niki Phillips who has recently published 'The Liffey Flows on By', Jean Spendlove (see a Wappenham Road cat admiring her book 'For Freedom to be Equal' in the picture on the right) and Philip Andrews, and the selection of prose, poetry and fairy tales were all very well received by everyone I spoke to. In addition, we raised £96.00 for Oxfam from secondhand book sales and a further £200.00 (exactly!) for the Mines Advisory Group from refreshments, competitions and general donations.

So thank  you all very much for coming along and supporting us. We hope you took away a few books that you'll enjoy reading and hope to see you all again in 2013.
