Overview

We want your views on our first Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, addressing areas at risk of flooding in Northamptonshire.

Under the Flood & Water Management Act 2010, Northamptonshire County Council is now Lead Local Flood Authority with primary responsibility for management of local flood risk across the County, working in partnership with District Councils, the Environment Agency, water companies (Anglian Water, Severn Trent and Thames Water) and the Buckingham and River Ouzel Internal Drainage Board.

Local flooding principally concerns surface water flooding, groundwater flooding and flooding from ordinary watercourses. The responsibility for main rivers still remains with the Environment Agency. The Strategy is a statutory requirement and will outline the authorities’ approach to managing flood risk for the next three years.
