Journey to the centre of South Northamptonshire
South Northamptonshire Council and Brackley-based Global Mapping have just published the fourth and final walking and cycling guide in its award-winning series. ‘Walk, Eat and Drink in Central South Northamptonshire’ features fifteen walks and three cycle routes.
The guide includes walks that are family friendly, those with disabled access and those with wildlife spotting sections for children. The walks take in some wonderful scenery including rolling hills, woodlands and the towpath beside the Grand Union Canal, and offer a range of distances from two miles around Bugbrooke to six and a half miles between Silverstone and Abthorpe.
The cycling routes range from 12 miles to 24 miles from the western most point at Moreton Pinkney to east of Rothershorpe.
Councillor Rupert Fordham, portfolio holder for economic development and regeneration, said: “These guides are proving extremely popular and this latest one will enable residents and visitors to the area to discover yet more of what South Northamptonshire has to offer whether on foot, by bicycle, wheelchair or pram!
“Equally important are the many pubs and cafés featured in the guide that offer a welcome rest and refreshment which in turn helps our local economy.”
Alan Smith, Global Mapping, said: “The walks in this guide are very diverse from quiet canal and riverside towpaths to beautiful views in remote countryside to Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit. All of them offer something whatever the walker’s interest and there is wildlife in abundance.”
Two previous guides in the series ‘Walk, Eat and Drink in Southwest Northamptonshire’ and ‘Walk and Cycle Brackley’ both won the prestigious Guide Book Silver Awards from the International Map Industry Association which covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
These and other local guides are available to download at www.southnorthants.gov.uk or are available from our offices, attractions throughout the district and the Towcester Museum.
