Wards covered in this update

Danvers & Wardoun, Washington and Astwell Wards

In 2014, over £1million of horse tack and farm implements was stolen

in Northamptonshire.

The support of our communities is essential in helping to reduce crime – the police cannot do this alone. By following the points below, you can help us to help you.

Restrict access to your yard. Securely lock all gates to prevent access

from unwelcome vehicles and make sure the gates can’t be lifted off the

hinges. Add a perimeter alarm to alert you if anyone comes onto your

Always take expensive saddles and tack home with you and never leave

them in an isolated stable or tack room. Make sure your riding

equipment has been marked so it can easily be identified as yours.

Outbuildings should be locked using a close shackle padlock and all

hinges, hasps, padbars etc should be fitted to buildings using coach

bolts. Secure generators and quad bikes to robust ground anchor points

with a high quality close shackle padlock and chain. Select these devices

from the ‘Sold Secure’ range of accredited products

Leave a security light on in your yard if it’s within sight of your home.

Don’t use lights in isolated areas.

Mark machinery such as quad bikes, tractors and trailers with ‘CESAR’

marking system www.cesarscheme.org. Also consider installing a tracker

device to this type of equipment.rthants Brackley

Check all existing lighting, alarms and locks are working and replace any

faulty equipment. Consider installing a burglar alarm if you don’t have

one, using a NSI or SSAIB approved installer. www.nsi.org.uk

Look out for any vehicles or persons loitering in or around your yard and

pass their descriptions to police IMMEDIATELY. Always note vehicle

registration numbers.
