Guarantee your rental income while helping those without a home
Landlords are being sought for an innovative scheme which could see their rental income guaranteed for two years.
The Private Sector Leasing (PSL) scheme run by South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) will see landlords paid rent in advance and quarterly at the Local Housing Allowance rate.
Minor repairs, plus gas and electricity safety checks, would also be carried out by SNC and the property would be returned to the landlord in its original condition subject to fair wear and tear.
The property will be managed by SNC’s housing specialists and the agreement can be extended after two years at the consent of both parties.
Currently there is a shortage of smaller properties available to the Council and the scheme aims to supply emergency housing to smaller families.
Placing them in larger homes, or even in bed and breakfast accommodation, is costly for both the Council in terms of rent and the tenant in terms of utility bills on a larger property.
Councillor Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s portfolio holder for economic development, regeneration and housing said: “We really hope to find more local properties to help people struggling to find a home.
“Not only will this mean they have access to accommodation appropriate to their needs, but hopefully they will be able to live in or near the community they most relate to.
“It is also a great deal for the landlord as it can mean that we can provide a long term tenant and guarantee that the property will be returned in a good condition."
Landlords with one or two bedroom properties within the district of south Northamptonshire should contact the Council to find out whether they can join the scheme.
