Book Containing A Photo Of The Campiun Window
A new book, "Stone to Build London: Portland's legacy" by Gill Hackman, has a full page photo of the image of Willium Campiun, the mason in a window at Helmdon church. Charles Binns of Helmdon kindly took the photo, ingeniously adapting his ladder so that he could get close to the window without damaging the church wall.
The book looks at Portland stone buildings in London and the story of the stone used to build them. It includes a section for those who wish to follow up by looking at buildings in London or visiting Portland.
“Stone to Build London: Portland’s Legacy” costs £24.99. It is a hardback with just over 300 pages and lots of pictures. The publisher's address is Folly Books Ltd, 27 Farleigh Rise, Monkton Farleigh, Bradford on Avon, Wilts, BA15 2QP. You can buy the book (post free) from them by post (with a cheque) or online. It is also available from Amazon and through local bookshops.
