Village Notice Board

             Whistley 2000 Scout Group

I am writing this in my capacity of Chair of the above Scout Group.  Some of you may have heard about us, as your children may attend or have attended in the past.

We are a thriving Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer group who meet at Turweston every Friday, Most of the young people who attend come from local villages, including Syresham & Helmdon.  Scouting is the UK's biggest mixed youth organisation. We change lives by offering 6 to 25-year-olds fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.

The reason for this article is we need help.  The number of young people wanting to join is ever increasing unfortunately our leadership team isn’t growing at the same pace.

Do you or know of someone who is willing to contribute time to help your local scout group?

We have great fun and as well as gaining externally recognised skills and having a brilliant time. Scouting also offers the chance to build on personal skills, like teamwork, confidence and leadership. A study found that over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives.

There are other opportunities to volunteer, if you have a hobby or interest, would you consider taking a qualification to run the activity for the young people to experience, this could be anything from canoeing, climbing, rifle shooting, archery the list is endless (Scouts would even help with the cost of training).

Please feel free to contact me for more information at: sawheeler52@gmail.com

Many Thanks

Steve Wheeler
