Nominations open for 2016 elections
The countdown has started until this year’s elections in May with the nomination period now open for potential candidates.
Yesterday (Wednesday) the Notices of Election were published announcing the Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner election which will take place on 5 May.
Potential candidates who would like to stand in the election now have until 4pm on Thursday, 7 April to submit nomination papers ahead of polling stations opening the following month.
Sue Smith, Local Returning Officer for South Northamptonshire, said: “The publication of the Notice of Election marks the official countdown to the Police and Crime Commissioner election on 5 May. Anyone who would like to stand as a candidate in either election now has two weeks to submit their nomination papers ahead of the list of candidates being published on Friday, 8 April.”
In South Northamptonshire all eligible voters will be able to participate in elections for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire Police.
It is only the second time elections have been held for the Police and Crime Commissioner, who will be elected for four years to cut crime and deliver an effective and efficient police service within their force area.
No local elections are scheduled for South Northamptonshire this year.
Anyone who would like to stand as a candidate in the Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner election will need to submit their nomination papers to Kettering Borough Council, which has been allocated as the main point of contact for the election.
