Householders urged to put bins out on time this Christmas
Householders in South Northants are being urged to put out their bins on time this festive season, despite only one interruption to normal services.
Waste and recycling collections will take place on the same day as normal during Christmas, however garden waste collections will be suspended for two weeks commencing Monday, 26 December.
Councillor Dermot Bambridge, SNC’s portfolio holder for environmental services said: “Little garden waste is produced at this time of year and it gives bin crews time to take away the extra recycling generated during the festive period.
“We are fortunate that this year the calendar has worked in our favour so waste, recycling and food waste collections continue as normal.
“There’s always more waste generated during this time of year and I urge residents to put their bins out by 7am on collection day as crews may arrive at different times than usual.”
Residents are also reminded they can put their real Christmas trees out for collection next to, or ideally in, the green bin when collections resume during the week commencing Monday, 9 January, ensuring decorations are removed.
Those lucky enough to receive the latest gadgets for Christmas are also reminded that they can put their unwanted electrical items out for recycling with their blue bin. Any household electrical item that can fit into a carrier bag can be placed on top of the blue bin for recycling.
Farthinghoe Recycling and Reuse Centre is currently on its winter opening hours (9am to 5pm) and will be closed from midday on Christmas eve, then all day Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
