This summer the 16th century King meets a 21st century audience in an event hosted by a local community group.
The new show ‘An Audience with Henry VIII’ will be coming to Helmdon on Saturday, 30 July. The performance will be in The Reading Room, starting at 7.30pm.
The event has been organised by Helmdon Presents and is supported by Northants Touring Arts (NTA) - a rural touring scheme, which works in partnership with South Northamptonshire Council (SNC), Arts Council England, and other local authorities to help volunteer groups bring professional arts events to the heart of their communities.
Cllr Karen Cooper, portfolio holder for community engagement and wellbeing, said: “The NTA scheme is a wonderful way to enable communities to access a high quality and affordable live arts programme on their doorstep, and one that we are proud to support.
“Autumn and spring are the most popular times of year for performances in village halls, so now is the time for people in villages to plan what they would like to book for their community event and take advantage of the scheme.”
This year, SNC’s Community Grant of £2,000 will subsidise local performances and contribute towards the countywide cost of £69,870, to help support the running of the scheme.
There are a wide range of performances on offer that can be selected for their suitability for the venue (churches and any community space with sufficient performing and seating area), as well as for the local audience interest. For further information, visit www.northantstouringarts.co.uk
The Foundry Group’s touring production of ‘An Audience with Henry VIII’ has already been a big success internationally, thanks to multi-award-winning actor Ross Gurney-Randall’s portrayal of England’s most notorious monarch.
It was a sell-out hit with extra dates at the Brighton Fringe and won standing ovations for every performance at Kansas City International Theatre Festival last year. For further information about the show and booking, visit the What’s On section of the website, or call 01295 760530 or 768922. Tickets cost £8.
Helmdon Presents have organised many NTA shows over the years and local promoter, Morag Underwood, adds: “Helmdon residents really enjoy the thrill of watching touring music, drama and dance in our village hall. Because our seating capacity is quite limited, we could not afford to host these professional productions whilst charging reasonable ticket prices. That’s why the subsidy offered through Northants Touring Arts is vital to rural venues like ours …it keeps the community singing
