Dates for the democratic diary
With the county council elections just around the corner, residents are being reminded of some important forthcoming deadlines.
South Northamptonshire and Cherwell District Councils are registering residents for the elections, which take place on Thursday, 4 May 2017. The deadline for voter registration is 11.59pm on Thursday, 13 April 2017. All poll cards have now been posted; residents who have not received them may not be registered to vote.
Paul Sutton, electoral registration officer for South Northamptonshire and Cherwell District Councils, said: “As always, we want everyone who is eligible to vote to be able to have their say about who they want representing them on the county council.
“There are still a couple of days to register for those who’ve left it a little late. Anyone who has registered before Thursday, 13 April 2017, but who will not be able to get to the polling station on the day, can apply for a postal or proxy vote to ensure their voice is heard.”
Electors have until 5pm on Tuesday, 18 April 2017 to apply for a postal vote or to amend or cancel existing postal or proxy voting arrangements for this election. They have until 5pm on Tuesday, 25 April 2017 to apply for a new proxy vote.
Mr Sutton added: “I would also point people to a series of important notices on our websites, including the confirmed lists of candidates standing for election, and information about some changes to polling stations.”
People can only vote at their allocated polling station; polling cards state the locations of polling stations.
Residents who have not received a poll card should contact the council elections hotline to check if they are registered to vote. South Northants residents should call 01327 322128 and Cherwell residents should call 01295 227005. Alternatively email firstname.lastname@example.org
