Important notice to householders regarding Christmas bin collections
Householders in South Northamptonshire should make sure they put their bins out on time in the build-up to Christmas as the Boxing Day collections will be moved to the following Saturday.
Any household which is due to have a collection on Tuesday, 26 December should put their bins out on Saturday, 30 December instead.
Householders living in The Shires, Towcester have also been informed that their collections due on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day have been moved forward to Saturday, 23 December and Saturday, 30 December.
Cllr Dermot Bambridge, South Northamptonshire Council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, said: “We’ve escaped any changes to Christmas bin collections for a number of years, but Bank Holiday dates will have an impact on services this year.
“Thanks to residents we have one of the best recycling rates in the country, but it can be challenging for households, especially around Christmas, so we will be sympathetic to anyone having problems.
“But if households can keep on top of their recycling in the build-up to Christmas, it will make it easier when the annual peak in volume of waste and recycling arrives.”
Reminders of the change in collection dates will be attached to the bins belonging to affected households on Tuesday, 12 December.
Collections on other days will not be affected by the Bank Holidays and residents should put their bins out on their normal day.
However, due to the rise in volume, collection crews may arrive at different times and householders should ensure their bins are out by 7am.
As normal, garden waste collections will be suspended for two weeks from Monday, 25 December before starting again the week commencing Monday, 8 January or Monday, 15 January 2018 depending on where you live in the district.
When garden waste collections resume residents are reminded they can put real Christmas trees out for collection in or next to their green bin, making sure all decorations are removed.
Bulky waste collections and deliveries will also be suspended for one week from Monday, 25 December, starting again in the first week of January 2018.
