Richard Farquharson wishes to circulate the following .....
WARNING - PLEASE DON'T BE FOOLED
Scammers are targeting 01295 phone numbers.
Caller (male or female) with Asian accent claims to be from BT Openreach working at local (Sulgrave) telephone exchange.
The caller's number as shown on my phone today was 01923 750873.
They may even have your name to make the call seem genuine - but it is a scam.
They may state that your internet performance has been bad recently or they have just upgraded a module in the exchange.
They might mention changing channel numbers to improve performance.
They refer to a graph showing you are not getting 100% performance.
They might ask how many lights are on (or flashing) on your router/hub.
They even try to get you to press a key combination e.g. 'start'+'R' on your keyboard. This is how they access your computer to get your personal information.
Plus, they might even ask for your PayPal or other banking information so you can "get a refund for poor performance".
This is all a scam - They are after your personal information, and ultimately your money.
PLEASE TAKE CARE, DO NOT OBEY INSTRUCTIONS FROM UNKNOWN/UNVERIFIED/COLD CALLERS, NO MATTER HOW CONVINCING THEY SEEM.
