As increasing numbers of people move into new homes in Brackley, work is about to begin on the town’s new community centre.
The two-storey building will feature a 224sqm main hall with a stage, space for an audience of up to 275 people and will be constructed with natural limestone, with a natural slate roof.
The stage and seating can be stored away to create a flexible space and possible uses include a crèche, public meetings, weddings, parties, theatrical performances and it may include a removable bar.
Cllr Roger Clarke, SNC’s portfolio holder for planning and environment, said: “While facing up to the challenges presented by the national housing shortage we have made sure that if we must take new homes they will be serviced by the very highest quality public amenities.
“We’ve worked closely with Brackley Town Council, which will eventually take ownership of the building, to ensure the centre fits with what the town needs and I think most will agree the design and finish are fitting for a place such as Brackley.”
The ground floor also comprises changing rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, office, toilets, an entrance lobby and a separate 48sqm meeting room.
The funding for the centre came from contributions from those behind the Radstone Fields development and the fitting out of the first floor will be completed following contributions from development elsewhere in the town.
With construction underway it is anticipated the community centre will be completed in November 2018.
