Fund raising parachute jump to raise cash for Seb Strudwick

By Gavin Moore

A South Northants family have been ovewhelmed by the support they have received following the launch of a £45K Fund raising appeal to help a toddler with cerebral palsy.

As this newspaper revealed an appeal has been launched to raise money for three-year-old Seb Strudwick.

Born 14 weeks premature Seb suffered a brain bleed and was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

The condition causes his limbs to be uncontrollably cramped limiting his mobility.

His family are now raising money to send Seb to America for an operation, which is not available on the NHS but is almost gauranteed to help him walk.

The family have also been given the green light for the Selective Dorsal Rhyzotomy (SDR) operation by Seb’s doctor.

Mum, Amy Strudwick said Dr TS Parks has carried out more than 2,000 SDR operations in 23 years and has a 100 per cent success rate.

Since the launch 147 people have registered their support via the SDR4SEB Facebook page and the appeal has raised more than £1,500.

A barbecue held for Formula One fans raised £500 during the Grand Prix weekend. Nine people have also agreed to take part in a sponsored parachute jump from Hinton Airfield on Sunday, September 11

Mrs Strudwick said much of the support is from people they do not know and added: “It’s amazing, businesses in Brackley have already donated auction and raffle prizes, people are just phoning me out of the blue to say they’ll support the appeal.

“I’m speechless really, thank you just doesn’t seem enough.”

Bill England from Helmdon helps organise the pub quiz at the Bell Inn and on Sunday, August 29 the proceeds will go to the appeal.

Mr England said: “I don’t know the family, but I saw Seb at a sports day recently struggling to participate.  I’ve done a bit of fund raising in the past and remembered the giving spirit of Helmdon people, and thought the appeal would do well here.”
