Villages Fare Well In Top

A prestigious competition has named Banburyshire villages among the best.

In the Calor Village of the Year Competition, Syresham scooped three awards in the Northamptonshire categories.

It included being named the county’s best medium sized village and taking second place in the newcomers cup and overall award group.

David Scudamore, chairman of the Village of the Year judges, said: Our congratulations go to all of the successful villages in the competition.

“We were very impressed by the standard and the judges had a very tough job selecting the winners.

“We hope that even more villages will be encouraged to participate again in 2009.”

Elsewhere, Middleton Cheney took second place in Northamptonshire’s large village category and Helmdon came second in the medium villages category.

Syresham was pipped to top spot in Northamptonshire by Creaton.

It will go on to compete in the national competition for a cash prize.

The overall winner for Oxfordshire, which last year was Steeple Aston, has yet to be announced.
