Line Drawing And Watercolour
Paul lives in Falcutt near Brackley and has painted throughout his life. He uses line drawing and watercolour to try to capture the true spirit of what he’s drawing; his subject matter is quite diverse and ranges from people and market places, landscapes, machinery to pigs and chairs. ‘To me the things and people I record seem remarkable, and I hope that those who look at my pictures may feel something of the happiness and contentment that has driven me to recall these things in my pictures,’ said Paul.
Paul is an artist in residence for Chipping Norton Theatre during 2010. He has spent many hours sketching parts of the theatre rarely seen by audiences including the green room, the wings and the projection room. A master of observation, Paul has captured in his drawings the spirit of the theatre: a sense of the intimate and the grandeur, of the practical and the aesthetic, of parts seen by many and seen by few.
Throughout the year Paul will be working on his sketches in his studio where he will be creating his final line drawings and watercolours for his end of residency exhibition in the theatre’s gallery. You can follow Paul’s year of residency via his blog at www.paulsandilands.blogspot.com
