JUST AN ORDINARY WEEK IN A FAR FROM ORDINARY VILLAGE
Photographs of coal being delivered by hand and a lady walking her pet pig are some of the highlights of a project to capture a week in the life of a Northants village.
Last year, Helmdon won the coveted title of Northants Village of the Year and a £220 cash prize.
In September, members of the parish council decided to spend the money reinstating the best village sign at the entrance to the village.
But with some cash left over, they decided to try to capture the essence
Village residents were invited to take pictures between Friday, November 11, and Friday November 18.
In the end, 800 pictures were submitted and 650 have been put online.
Although the original intention was to only produce a handful of photo books, one for the parish council, and one for the County Record Office, the project generated so much interest that more copies may be produced for wider circulation.
Contributor and parish councillor Danny Moody said: “The Snapshot Project in Helmdon has been great fun and the results are really brilliant; The photo book we have produced has come out really well, better than hoped.
“At the moment, it is just a really good collection of local photos but, or course, over time, it will grow in social value and take on increasing poignancy and interest – a real asset for the future.”
A slide show containing a small selection of the photos can be viewed online at www.brackleytoday/co.uk, or you can access the full collection via www.helmdon.com/snapshot.
