Walkers heading through Helmdon will now be able to take a rest outside the village church after a new bench was dedicated on Friday last week.
Members of the Helmdon Fellowship of Retired People celebrated its 50th anniversary by installing the seat outside St Mary Magdalene Church, which was dedicated by the Revd Will Adams.
Secretary of the Fellowship Rosemary Gulliver said: “We decided to put a bench outside the church gates to replace one that had been there since the war, and we wanted a permanent reminder of the fact the organisation has been going for all these years.”
A commemorative plaque has been included on the bench. A celebration tea was held in the church following the dedication.
The fellowship is a group for people aged 60 and over and enjoys regular gatherings and outings.
