Staff, children and parents in Helmdon have expressed their delight at a £7,000 grant which will allow work to start on a new pre-school building.
Liz Hart, project manager at Helmdon Acorns Pre-School, said: ‘In the current economic climate funding is becoming increasingly difficult to access.
‘Once we had secured an Early Years Capital Grant of £150,000 from Northamptonshire County Council in January we were very conscious that we had a limited time to raise an additional £25,000 in order to meet our £175,000 total budget and safeguard our capital grant.
‘This really is fantastic news and we can’t wait for the new building to be ready.’
Work will start later this month on the new building which will offer a bright purpose built playroom with free flow access to a large play area outside together with other facilities including a kitchen specially designed with low worktops to allow the children to participate in cookery sessions.
The new building will allow the pre-school to operate longer hours reflecting those of the primary school and making it easier for parents to work around child care.
