Helmdon has had a branch of the Women's Institute since 1921.
It meets in Helmdon Reading Room every 2nd Wednesday of the month (except for August) at 7.30 pm in the Reading Room and welcomes women of all ages, from the surrounding villages as well as Helmdon.
Today, in common with WIs all over the country, the branch is much more than "jam and Jerusalem". It still binds together the women of the village, who at heart, have the same interests of those of over ninety years ago, but who as the twentieth century passed by and merged into the twenty first, have widened their view of the world to embrace wider interests and activities.
It has a varied annual programme. The occasional garden party is always much enjoyed, as are the harvest suppers of the members' own making, the occasional meals out, and outings, whether to local attractions, or a coach visit farther away. In addition, members have the opportunity to join in county events, such as guided walks around Northamptonshire, visits to Northamptonshire Federation own adult education facility, Denman College, or study days or demonstrations of practical skills.
Why not come along one evening? A warm welcome awaits you.
If you would like further information please contact a member of the committee.
