                                        Schedule 2011

Meetings are on Thursdays in the Reading Room, Helmdon, at 7.30 pm on the dates given below unless otherwise specified.  Guests  are   very welcome at meetings in the the Reading Room and pay £2 at the door each time.

Club Night

A quiet night in watching Geoff Hamilton's 'Cottage Gardens' DVD: pull up a chair, enjoy our tasty free snacks and relax. A brief talk about garden birds.


17 February

Speaker Talk on Medieval Plants and Their Uses by members of the Syresham Gardening Club, followed by home made marrow rum/wine tasting


21 March

7 pm

Social night at the Bell Inn with supper and quiz. Buy your ticket at a Garden club meetings. £6 each.  All welcome.


21 April

Speaker: Gerald Sinclair (holder of the National Collection of Day Lilies) talks about 'Discovering Day Lilies'; Gerald will be selling some of his plants on the night.


19 May

Club Night: Plants/Garden Books/ Equipment Sale

June (date tbc) Local Visit: Falcutt House Gardens 2 - 4 pm


16 June


Speaker: Sally Cunningham on 'Love Your Garden Bugs'


21 July

Mystery Garden Visit (in Helmdon). Please meet in the Reading Room at 7.30 pm. Not far to go so no transport necessary.


13 August  

Members' Summer Garden Party   6 - 8 pm at Wiggy Smith's house, 48 Wappenham Road. (Members to put their name on the list at Garden Club meetings - for catering purposes - please.)

Helmdon Gardening Club's Flower & Produce Show

Judging 11 pm, viewing from 2 pm

Annual Supper Lecture Timothy Walker (Director of Oxford Botanic Gardens) talks on The Healing Power of Plants.  (Entry by pre-booked tickets - none on the door - to include a hot supper.  Tickets cost £7 from the Village Cafe, at a Gardening Club meeting and Caroline King)

'Open Evening': all village welcome


17 November

Club Night including raffle and Plant Quiz - with prizes


15 December

Tropical Christmas Party: banish winter blues. Come and enjoy free tropical drinks & food for a truly balmy evening!
